From Windmill Hill...

Hi there!

My name is still Laura Mossop, I am still a painter and illustrator and I still have a terrible sense of humour which sees me laughing through all the crazy. My blog however HAS had a wee bit of a makeover. It's now called 'From Windmill Hill' after a place I used to live, where I created many of the ideas I want to create now that I finally have some time to explore them. I feel this is a more appropriate name...plus it sounds whimsical and rolls right off the tongue delightfully!

As a creative practitioner, I am also exploring traditional and digital arts and how they can be combined into participation events! As a creative however I still want to create whimsically, funny illustrations that people like to buy to put on their walls and chuckle at every now and then. This is where this blog, my etsy shop, Instagram and tumblr site come into being! It allows me to have fun, continue to express myself through these things and keep exploring the ridiculousness of my life without confusing people. These people may just want to learn about projection mapping and plein air painting and instead see a fabulous girl sitting on a giant cake...Not the worst thing on the internet but also not what they're looking for.

So if you're an old follower who for some reason still has me on your list, stay tuned for alot of major new developments, and for all new readers...welcome! Have a look through the archives and checkout my old artworks.

Speak to you again soon!

I Love Christmas Shopping...or do I?

So...Remember that time about a month ago, when you forgot what Christmas was like and you were all ' I love shopping and browsing for the perfect present for everyone'. This is my illustration of that feeling. I like this feeling...I wish it would last ( or at least longer then a week....) because it swiftly transforms in to this next feeling....

Happy Christmas shopping everyone!

Poppy Girl illustration

Poppy Girl illustration

Celebrating the poppy

I thought i'd take a break from posting Christmas cards and show you a old design that's going into a new range of art cards i'll be selling in the new year.

This is one of my favourites and i'm happy to be able to start selling it once more. She will be part of a set that links together illustrations of vintage styles and flowers, a theme that has been done before but certainly a good one.

Christmas card time!

by laura mossop

Hello everyone! I'mgoing to be updating with my range of christmas card designs that will soon be available to buy!!
Its my first time trying to create card designs so let me know what you think of my festive dancers that will soon be on their way. :)

As you can see this image is not a festive dancer...she is just a lady dragging a fir tree which is only socially acceptable during this one, very specific time of year. Lady lumberjacks...so misunderstood.

Fashion illustration : Avery by Wang's Shirt Dress

Original fashion illustration for Avery by Wang.

I recently teamed up with Avery by Wang to do a series of illustrations depicting various ways of styling their wonderful shirtdress. Here is the first final illustration! This was the first illustration I finished for the series and it set the tone for the rest of the designs.

To give you an idea of how the process works when I create my fashion illustrations, below is the initial sketch that I showed Annching the founder and designer of the fashion collection.

Also a lot of the time you guys just get to see the final piece, but I know I always love to see peoples sketch books so over the next week or so i'll be going through my process of how I created these illustrations.

I hope it inspires some other budding fashion artists to pick up the paintbrush!

The Princess Bride

The Princess Bride

Hands up if you love this film! Classic Sunday afternoon watching and was my inspiration for todays warm up.

On Monday one of my projects will finally see the light of day on the wonderful Annching Wang's site! More on that soon though, now it's time to prepare myself for Monday and what this week will bring.

FuzzyPeach

Hi

I'm starting to get back into doing daily fashion outfits again. I'm approaching the challenge differently this time though. I love creating concept art for fashion and getting the emotion into the piece, so instead of trying to copy the outfits exactly i'm going to be more expressive. Still getting the look of the outfit and the model but not being as exact which was what was taking a lot of the time.
I'm still working on my wedding portrait ideas and will be posting some inspirations up soon!

Hi,

A quick post tonight before i get back to creating the final touches for a wedding invite!
I mentioned to 'Lost in the Haze' a while back that i would love to do some sketches of her photos and now i finally have! Thanks for the wonderful inspiration Jo! Hope you like these even though they're quite quick!

I'm so jealous of your blue hat that i have to draw it.

Magazine article.

This new year has started with a Bang!
I've been focused on portraits for a while and all the hard work has paid off. I did a graduation event for the University of Derby andgot lots of positive feedback. Lots more work to do now until i feel confident the business works but i think i'm making good progress so far!

You can also check out some of the work i've been doing in From Dusk 2 Dawn magazine here.

New fashion updates will be happening again as well as a lot of the development for the portraits and as Spring is coming up that means...WEDDINGS!! Pretty pictures will be posted asap!

Here's one of my favourites from the magazine. Kate Haresnape is a journalist for the magazine and was one of the people i did a portrait for.

7 Dec Fashion Outfit illustration

My new years resolution is to become better at doing one of these a day. there's no way i'll be able to catch up with all the missed ones so i'll just have to try harder. Those who succeed are the ones that when they fall down they always get back up! :)

Illustration rally : Red Rock

Hi,

I've entered into Illustration Rally's brilliant Fashion illustration competition for Red Rock! I admit...my designs aren't your standard fashion illustrations but i'm interested to see how a big clothing company like RedRock like the style. Let me know what you think as well, I like experimenting but feedbacks always good to have!
Technically i could count these as daily outfits but i'm not. I've been so busy they've been pushed to one side but i'm determined to catch up! Expect a mass upload soon. :)

I admit, i'm not overly fond of the second one but i love the first one! :)

24Models24Hours

Ewan Mathers and Holly Booth are doing a fantastic job raising money for Children in need as well as supporting the local designers in Derby. 24Models 24Hours is the idea of photographing different models in a different in different locations wearing and being styled by different design teams. They said it was madness and i'm sure there was a lot of insanity along the way, but they managed to pull it off! The end result has been made into a book that will be sold and the money will be given to Children in need.

So far they are on £247.79!!
A documentary has been created that details the thoughts behind the project, interviewing the models and designers and letting them say what the project means to them. You can watch it here.

http://www.justgiving.com/24models24hours

They will be holding a book launch event on Sunday 27th November at Fat Cat Café Bar in Derby (6.30pm), please come & join us for a celebratory '24' cocktail.

Now for todays outfit illustration!

Kate : Outfit In love with my scarf

Nights are getting darker earlier, it's cold outside and cosy inside and it's time to break out the scarves and gloves because winter is definitely here! :)

Victoria Secrets Fire

Mmm I love this old design, done for an old Victoria Secret competition, i really like the style used to create it. Done mainly in Photoshop using a ink illustration as the base.

I admit, i'm procrastinating a little bit, I have a few portraits that need working on ( www.lauramossop.com/portraits/ ) but all i want to do is create fashion illustrations!! I do believe i'm addicted.

I also love Kimbra!

A late post - fashion faces illustrations

I said there may be a late one! I confess, I'd much rather stay up late then get up early, i wish i loved mornings but i don't!

So a couple of illustrations of faces, i was experimenting with a watercolour style.

and here's the illustration with lace, experimenting with pattern and composition more then anything else. Next week I'll actually post some of my influences on this blog, so far its been all about my stuff! :)
